Overview of your tour
This walking tour begins in Praça da Figueira where we can see the Castle of São Jorge and the old part of the city, but our journey takes a different path. We will walk in Lisbon towards downtown and then the cosmopolitan and bohemian side of the town.
To give an extra boost to our afternoon walk in Lisbon, we will start with a cherry liqueur – this will help with the legs. Then we walk the downtown streets. You will learn from your guide about how life was like before the massive earthquake that destroyed that entire area.
Time for the first walk upward. We head to Chiado, the open shopping area of Lisbon and meeting point, for so long, of artists, poets, and bohemians. Chiado is one of the central neighborhoods in Lisbon, and from here, you can see the locals moving out and about with their lives. In Chiado, we will visit one of the best viewpoints to admire downtown Lisbon and the Castle. Learn about the past of the Carmo Convent and how it also helped shape Lisbon’s history after the earthquake.
After Chiado, we will head to Bairro Alto, renowned for its nightlife and Fado restaurants, but utterly different during the day. Discover why the layout of Bairro Alto is the way it is while you chat with your guide savoring a Bifana* (*only if the premium option is selected). Pass through historical shops in the same family for centuries and then head to one of the most impressive viewpoints in Bairro Alto – called Miradouro de Santa Catarina. This viewpoint is one of the last spots where you can watch the sunset in Lisbon. Time for a break to enjoy a drink and the view!
Finally, arrive at a little corner shop to have a proper olive oil tasting* (*only if the premium option is selected). Olive oil production is a big industry in Portugal, and in this small local shop, you will have a chance to learn all about it. Chat with the owner and leave no question unanswered!
After a different (but proper!) olive oil tasting, we will not be walking up anymore; we will be stepping down towards Cais do Sodré. But first, we will stop to admire the famous Elevador da Bica.
Cais do Sodré is also famous for its bars and unique pubs. Still, during daytime, you will find some of the best seafood restaurants here – after all, this was the port, and it doesn’t get much fresh than this!
Conclude your tour by the TimeOut Market with a custard tart or even opt to go in for dinner.

We booked a walking and food tasting tour with Filipa. (…) Our guide Filipa was welcoming, attentive and shared many interesting facts about Lisbon throughout the tour. She responded to all of our questions and was flexible to accommodate the tour to our needs as this was very important to us as a family traveling with young children. Filipa gave us time to explore the city without at our own pace and we never felt rushed. Thank you Filipa for showing us the heart of Portugal.
What an amazing way to see Lisbon! The tour was super relaxed and I learnt more in a few hours with André and Filipa than I could from weeks of research.
