Overview of your tour

The Ultimate Sintra Walk starts early in the morning in front of Pizza Hut, right outside the Sintra train station. In this Sintra Walk, we will walk towards Sintra’s town center and visit Quinta da Regaleira. We will not follow the crowds during this walk, but rather show you Sintra’s true beauty.

Since the landscape of Sintra became a UNESCO site, the number of visitors increased. We will take advantage of local knowledge to show you the best that Sintra has to offer. We will start passing by the City Hall building, explaining Sintra town center’s current layout. We will walk towards the town center, known among the locals as Vila Velha, that translates to “Old Town,” and you will learn from your guide the history of this unique place filled with parks, vegetation, and palace towers popping amidst the trees. Sintra was the summer destination for the Portuguese Royalty, writers, artists, and aristocrats, and in this walk, you will understand why.

After visiting Sintra’s town center and admiring the Sintra National Palace’s two massive chimneys, it is time to try Sintra’s best delicacy – the pastries. Relax with your guide in a pastry shop and try a Queijada or even a Codfish Pastel de Nata, yes you read right!

Admire the views from the hidden streets of Sintra town center and get lost with your guide in this medieval-looking town. Learn about the history of the first Portuguese King conquering Sintra, and visit a church built after that conquest. Admire the Castle of the Moors as your guide explains to you the hidden routes from the Castle to the town center.

Time for the first walk uphill as we head to Seteais Palace, a former palace that is now a luxurious hotel. From here, admire Sintra’s valley and see the famous Pena Palace sitting right on top of the mountain.

Next, head to Quinta da Regaleira, the exquisite home of António Monteiro, famous for the well that leads to underground paths. Quinta da Regaleira is one of Sintra’s most beautiful monuments and contains a tremendous Portuguese history symbolism. Learn all about this mansion during your guided tour.

Conclude your tour right outside the gates of Quinta da Regaleira. Take advantage of your guide’s insights and learn the best way to navigate the rest of Sintra’s monuments, either you wish to go to Pena Palace or Monserrate Palace.
